School of Computer Sciences



Mahatma Gandhi University established School of Computer Sciences in the year 1990 with an objective to impart higher education and research in the field of Computer Science and thereby to meet the increasing demand for high quality, well trained computer professional in the country. The first programme offered by the School, MSc in Computer Science was started in the year 1993  under the leadership of Prof.(Dr.) K.N. Ramachandran Nair, the founder director of the School.

The School enjoys considerable repute as a centre of learning, a reputation matched by a stimulating physical and intellectual atmosphere. Over the last three decades, the School has gained reputation as an advanced centre of post graduate learning and research in frontier areas of Computer Science. The postgraduate programmes of the School focus on the strengthening of the students’ knowledge in almost all areas of Computer Science and on exposing them to the issues involved in the development of computer systems. This level of advanced education is in great demand in most industrial/academic/research organizations. The School also strives to inculcate a sound value system among students as part of the day to day teaching/learning process.

Currently the School offers a second level M.Sc programme in Computer Science, an M.Phil programme in Computer Science and Ph.D. The up to date  curriculum and high standard of teaching matched with the state-of-the-art infrastructure and computational facilities of the School provide an intellectually stimulating atmosphere for the  holistic development of students. The School offers short add-on courses on different scientific and computational tools to students through the Spoken Tutorial Project, an initiative of NMEICT, MHRD,  Govt. of India. The School encourages blended learning using e-learning resources. Since 2012, international students are being admitted to the M Sc programme of the School almost every year.
