The School of Computer Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, organized a thought-provoking and intellectually enriching invited talk titled “Responsible Research—A Guide to Doing It Right” on 29th July 2025 at 3:00 PM. The session was conducted in the department seminar hall and was attended by MSc students and research scholars from the School of Computer Sciences.

Induction Day and PTA Meeting | JULY 21, 2025
MSc Computer Science (2025–2027), 33rd Batch
The School of Computer Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, warmly welcomed the 33rd batch of MSc Computer Science students (2025–2027) during the Induction Day programme held on Monday, July 21st at 11.00 AM. The event also included a PTA meeting with active participation from parents and faculty members.
The programme began with an address by the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Bindu V R, who introduced the department’s academic structure, detailed the syllabus, class timings, university resources, and emphasized essential guidelines on anti-ragging and anti-drug policies. Her speech offered valuable insights into the academic culture and support systems of the School.
Prof. Dr. Pushpalatha K P extended a heartfelt welcome to the incoming students, encouraging them to embark on this new journey with motivation and dedication. Prof. Dr. Jyothisha, class faculty-in-charge for the new batch, expressed her aspirations to make this batch a unique and outstanding one at SOCS, inspiring students to work closely with the faculty for mutual growth.
♦ Anti-Drug Day Observance
– A Collective Stand for a Drug-Free Campus

The School of Computer Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, observed Anti-Drug Day on June 26, 2025, with a meaningful and thought-provoking session held in the department’s Seminar Hall at 10:30 AM. The event witnessed the active participation of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Bindu V. R., along with faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and MSc students.
The programme began with an anti-drug pledge, where all attendees solemnly took an oath against the use and promotion of drugs, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle and society.
The School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, in collaboration with the School of Computer Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, organized a two-day Hands-on Workshop on Deep Learning for Computer Vision on the 10th and 11th of April, 2025. The event took place at the Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning Lab, located within the School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. The workshop was conducted under the auspices of the MGU ACM Student Chapter and witnessed enthusiastic participation from postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members.
Dr. Deepak Mishra, Professor, IIST
The primary resource person for the workshop was Dr. Deepak Mishra, Professor and Head of the Department of Avionics at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. Mishra, renowned for his expertise in AI and computer vision, led several sessions along with a dedicated team comprising Jayakumar T V, Aswathy P, Krishnendu Lalaji, and Ramzan Basheer.
The workshop commenced with an official inauguration ceremony held on April 10th at 9:30 AM. The session was gracefully anchored by Sreelakshmi, a student of M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) C.T. Aravindakumar, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University. His presence and encouraging words marked a grand opening for the workshop, highlighting the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence and its real-world applications, particularly in the domain of computer vision.
♦ International Women’s Day Celebration 2025
The School of Computer Sciences and the School of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, organized a grand celebration of International Women’s Day 2025. The event was spread over two days, March 10 and 11, featuring a keynote session, an engaging quiz competition, and meaningful discussions on women’s rights and empowerment.

The Women’s Day celebration was officially inaugurated on March 11, 2025, at the Seminar Hall of the School of Computer Sciences. The event began with a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Pushpalatha K P, setting the tone for the program. This was followed by the presidential address delivered by Prof. Dr. Bindu V R, Head of the School of Computer Sciences, who emphasised the importance of gender equality and inclusivity in all fields, especially in science and technology. Students expressed their love for Women’s Day by presenting handmade crafts to the faculty members.
