International Women’s Day Celebration 2025 

The School of Computer Sciences and the School of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, organized a grand celebration of International Women’s Day 2025. The event was spread over two days, March 10 and 11, featuring a keynote session, an engaging quiz competition, and meaningful discussions on women’s rights and empowerment.

Inaugural Session & Keynote Address

The Women’s Day celebration was officially inaugurated on March 11, 2025, at the Seminar Hall of the School of Computer Sciences. The event began with a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Pushpalatha K P, setting the tone for the program. This was followed by the presidential address delivered by Prof. Dr. Bindu V R, Head of the School of Computer Sciences, who emphasised the importance of gender equality and inclusivity in all fields, especially in science and technology. Students expressed their love for Women’s Day by presenting handmade crafts to the faculty members.

The highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan, Registrar of Mahatma Gandhi University. She is also the Head of the School of Indian Legal Thought and the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension at MGU. Her session, titled “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities, Equal Power – The Legal Perspective,” provided a thought-provoking insight into gender equality from a legal standpoint. She discussed the importance of empowering women through policy-making, education, and workplace inclusivity. Her speech was inspiring and well-received by both faculty members and students, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

 

Quiz Competition

As part of the Women’s Day celebrations, a Quiz Competition was conducted on March 10, 2025, in the Seminar Hall. The quiz was designed to test participants’ knowledge on a variety of topics, including women’s achievements, gender equality, general knowledge, and current affairs. The competition was hosted by Quiz Master Anu Surendran, a student from the MSc 2023-25 Batch, School of Computer Sciences.

The event began with a preliminary round, in which several teams participated enthusiastically. After an intense elimination process, six teams advanced to the final round. The final round was divided into four sections:

  1. General Round – covering diverse topics related to current affairs and women’s history.
  2. Visual Round – where participants had to identify personalities, events, and symbols related to women’s empowerment.
  3. Audio Round – featuring speeches and audio clips of famous women leaders, activists, and historical moments.
  4. Rapid-Fire Round – a fast-paced segment testing quick thinking and teamwork.

The participants showed great enthusiasm, and the audience was equally engaged, actively cheering for their favourite teams. After a competitive and exciting final round, the winners were announced:

  • First Prize (₹2000 + Certificates): Panchami & Midhun from the School of Biosciences.
  • Second Prize (₹1000 + Certificates): Rahul & Dhanus from the School of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics.

The prizes were distributed by Prof. Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan, the chief guest of the event, who also congratulated all the participants for their spirited performance.

The International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations at Mahatma Gandhi University were a resounding success, with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members alike. The event not only provided a platform to discuss the significance of women’s empowerment but also encouraged healthy competition and knowledge sharing through the quiz. The thought-provoking keynote address and engaging activities made the event both educational and inspiring.

The celebrations concluded with a strong message of equality, empowerment, and the importance of legal awareness in achieving gender justice. It was a memorable occasion that reinforced the commitment of the university to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.
