Walter Sisulu University Delegation Visits MGU for Academic and Cultural Exchange
The discussion offered a unique opportunity to engage in cross-cultural academic dialogue, highlighting similarities and
differences in the educational systems of India and South Africa.
During our interaction, we discussed the differences in the structure and delivery of higher
education, including curriculum design, evaluation methods, and classroom practices. We
compared student election systems, governance, and the role of student unions in shaping
campus life. The fee structure and availability of scholarships were explored in depth, along
with funding sources for student activities. The visitors were particularly interested in the scale
and vibrancy of youth festivals and cultural programs at Indian universities, and we exchanged
insights on organizing such events. Additionally, we covered the funding mechanisms for
cultural activities, the organization of national and international conferences, and the
encouragement of student participation in academic forums. The session concluded with a
discussion on the campus placement ecosystem in India, how universities engage with
industries, and the support structures available for student careers.

This interaction was a mutually enriching experience that fostered greater cultural
understanding and academic exchange. It served as a platform to build lasting connections and
