SOCS Alumni Meet 2026

The Alumni Meet of the School of Computer Sciences (SOCS), Mahatma Gandhi University, was held on 11 April 2026 with great enthusiasm and participation from alumni, faculty members, and students. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Ramachandran Nair, whose elegant presence added pride and honor to the occasion as the founder of the department. During the inaugural session, he officially launched the CSSA website, cssasocs.org, marking an important milestone for the alumni association. He also handed over the Overall Championship Trophy of Interface 2K26 to SAIR – School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for their outstanding performance across various events. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Pushpalatha K P, who warmly welcomed the gathering with a delightful speech. This was followed by the presidential address by Prof. Dr. Bindu V R, who presented the department’s achievements, future goals, and the valuable contributions made by the alumni community. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening and expanding the alumni database for better connectivity and collaboration.

The felicitation session began with an address by Prof. Dr. Anuj Mohamed, who fondly recalled the memorable moments and legacy of SOCS. Prof. Dr. Bindu V R then introduced the new Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jyothisha J Nair, to the gathering. In her felicitation speech, she expressed her amazement at the strong bond shared between the faculty members and alumni, noting how professors still remembered former students with affection and care. It was also informed that Prof. Dr. Vijayakumar could not attend the event due to a family function. The felicitation was continued by Pradeep P, who shared valuable thoughts and experiences with the audience. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sujith P S(Alumni Coordinator). He expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the grand success of the event, with special appreciation to coordinator Aghil K P (Interface Coordinator) for his dedicated efforts and sleepless nights of work, along with the executive committee members, Prof. Dr. Pushpalatha K P, and Prof. Dr. Bindu V R for their continuous support and guidance throughout the program.

Panel Discussion – Campus to Tech World

One of the major highlights of the SOCS Alumni Meet 2026 was the panel discussion titled “Campus to Tech World,” which served as an inspiring platform for students and alumni to interact with accomplished professionals from the IT industry. The session featured eminent alumni of the School of Computer Sciences, Mr. Joble M. Jose (Director & CTO, RADTAR Innovations Pvt. Ltd., Kerala), Mr. Dilip K. Prasad (Product Design Director, 1mind, USA), and Mr. Pramod S. (Senior Program Manager, Tata Elxsi, Bengaluru). The discussion was skillfully moderated by Ms. Betty Jose, Assistant Professor, Nirmala College of Arts and Science, and an alumna of the School of Computer Sciences. Bringing together experts from diverse domains of the technology industry, the session provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges awaiting them beyond the classroom.

The discussion began with each panelist sharing their personal journey from being a student at the School of Computer Sciences to establishing successful careers in the global technology industry. They reflected on their experiences during their academic years, the challenges they encountered while transitioning from campus to corporate life, and the lessons they learned throughout their professional journey. Their stories highlighted the role played by the department in shaping their technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, confidence, and professional ethics. Listening to the achievements of distinguished alumni motivated the students to dream bigger and prepare themselves for the evolving demands of the technology sector.

The panel discussion was highly interactive, encouraging students to actively engage with the speakers through a vibrant question-and-answer session. Students enthusiastically raised questions regarding current job opportunities in the IT industry, career prospects in emerging technologies, and the skills required to secure placements in leading technology companies. Several participants sought guidance on choosing the right career path based on their interests, whether in software development, artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing, product management, or research. The panelists patiently addressed every query, providing practical insights drawn from their own professional experiences.

A significant portion of the discussion focused on emerging technologies and how students should prepare themselves for the rapidly changing technological landscape. The panelists explained how innovations in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Generative AI, Cloud Computing, DevOps, Cybersecurity, Data Engineering, Internet of Things (IoT), Product Design, and Automation are transforming industries worldwide. They emphasized that technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace, making continuous learning an essential quality for every aspiring professional. Students were encouraged to stay updated with industry trends through online learning platforms, technical communities, certifications, hackathons, open-source contributions, and personal projects.

Students also expressed concerns about the relevance of programming languages and the technologies currently preferred by employers. They sought advice on which programming languages they should prioritize while preparing for placements and software development careers. The panelists explained that while languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, and SQL continue to be highly valuable, employers primarily assess a candidate’s ability to understand programming concepts, solve problems efficiently, and adapt to new technologies rather than expertise in a single language. They encouraged students to build a strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, software engineering principles, and system design, as these fundamentals remain valuable regardless of technological changes.

Another important topic discussed during the session was interview preparation. Students were eager to understand how to effectively prepare for technical interviews, coding assessments, HR interviews, and aptitude tests. The panelists shared practical strategies for building confidence during interviews, including consistent coding practice, participation in mock interviews, solving real-world programming problems, improving communication skills, and creating strong project portfolios. They stressed that employers value candidates who demonstrate curiosity, teamwork, analytical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to learn quickly. The speakers also advised students to focus on internships and hands-on industry exposure, as practical experience significantly enhances employability.

The discussion further explored the importance of soft skills alongside technical expertise. The panelists highlighted that effective communication, leadership qualities, teamwork, professionalism, and time management are equally important in today’s corporate environment. Through examples from their own professional careers, they explained how interpersonal skills often become the deciding factor in career growth and leadership opportunities. Students were encouraged to actively participate in seminars, workshops, technical events, student organizations, and extracurricular activities to develop these essential qualities.
